Getting Stronger

I’ve been running a 5 mile cycle pretty regularly now, which is my new 3 mile circuit. I’m still painfully slow, and yesterday had to walk about a half a mile to catch my breath… because my friend and I were talking so much. But it sure made the miles fly by… and we felt great when we were done! I’m still working on my Half Marathon Training for the Novice Runner by Hal Higdon, and it’s been kicking me in the butt!

I can feel I’m getting stronger, and running is coming easier, but who am I kidding? It’s still a struggle to get out the door and pick my route. My muscles have been in serious pain (I’m a wimp, I’m not injured or anything) so I bought a Stretch and Strength Foam-Roller with the super-awesome  amazon gift card my sister-in-law gave me for my birthday (YES)!  It’s purple and lovely.

I think it’ll help with my increased milage I’m planning for the spring.

Friday I’m going to do a lone run of 8 miles, and Saturday I’m heading out with a group of girls for a ‘chill’ 5 mile run (Since WHEN is 5 miles chill?!?). Hah.

YAY for the weekend!

March Runs

I did it. I ran 42 miles in the month of February- which was exilerating! I certainly pushed myself hard, starting with a .73m run at the beginning of the month while trying to break in my shoes, and making it up to 7m on the 23rd. Following Hal Higdons running plan for this race has been a complete failure, BUT I’m going to post up his calender plan in prep for my May 1/2 marathon to make THAT race as painless as possible!

I’ve only got a couple more weeks of “winter running” left… (it was 80F yesterday for my run), and then I’m buying myself the cutest pink shorts from LuluLemon (Run Tracker Short). I’d buy them today if they would only bother to carry them so I could BUY them – I mean, c’mon! I’m in love with the style and the color and it’s a NEED to run in them for my first 1/2 marathon. I’m kinda getting worried they won’t carry them in time for my race =( Well, since it’s March, it’s time to go over my March Goals.

  • Run 60 miles (total) this month
  • Finish the Shamrock 1/2 Marathon
  • Go rock climbing (maybe for my birthday!?)
  • Eat Breakfast EVERYDAY
  • Smile and Laugh every day!
  • Take the time to make good healthy meals, three times per week
  • Stop. Take time to journal. I feel so much more balanced when I journal.

It’s not just about running, it’s about balancing a healthy lifestyle. It’s not about losing wieght, it’s about being comfortable in the skin you are in. If we are maintaining a healthy lifestyle, our body weight will settle in a place that’s healthy for us!

why I love you…

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy” -Martin Luther King

I married the man of my dreams about two and a half months ago, and I tell him every day how happy I am that he found me! Every morning I wake up snuggled up to him, I get to hear all of his exciting stories, great ideas, and plans for the future…. and I plan on doing that for the next 70 years. I couldn’t have been given a more precious man, and I’m grateful for every day we have together!

It was Tyler’s birthday this weekend and we had the most amazing weekend of our life :) When I asked him what he wanted to do… like drive up to DC and wander around, go camping or hiking, he responded, “I want to go ‘antiquing’ (verb: to shop for or collect antiques). So we drove up to the Williamsburg Antique Mall and wandered around for over two hours… which was so much fun! Seeing his face light up and excitment about wandering around this stuff for hours amazed me. If I would have known he loved ‘antiquing’ so much, we would have done it before!
After we were both starving, we got his favorite birthday meal (chicken fried steak. don’t even ask), and spent the early-evening in Williamsburg. FINALLY we went home and decorated and at his amazing PINK cake!

Happy Birthday dear. I love you SO much.
